THE RFC MYC: Kansas Collegiate Athletic Conference (KCAC)-(NAIA)

Kansas Collegiate Athletic Conference (KCAC)-(NAIA)

Overview: Yet another competitive season in the Kansas Collegiate Athletic Conference (KCAC) produced a three-way tie for the conference championship for the fall of 2021, with Bethel (Kan.), Kansas Wesleyan, and Southwestern (Kan.) all finishing the regular season at  9-1 in KCAC play.

However, when postseason play arrived in mid-November, only two out of the three teams advanced to the NAIA playoffs, with Southwestern and Kansas Wesleyan advancing from the KCAC, while Bethel found itself on the outside looking in despite finishing the regular season at 9-2 overall.

As for the playoffs themselves, Kansas Wesleyan advanced to the quarterfinals via forfeit over Indiana Wesleyan, who was forced to withdraw from postseason play due to COVID-19 protocols. The Coyotes then fell to eventual national champion Morningside to finish their season at 11-2 overall.

Meanwhile, Southwestern's postseason run was cut short in the opening round, as the Moundbuilders lost to Marian in a close 21-17 contest to close out their season at 9-2 overall. Southwestern's only other setback last season came to Bethel in a double-overtime thriller on October 9. It was a high-scoring contest where the Threshers finally emerged on top, with a final score of 37-31.

Looking ahead to 2022, Southwestern outlasted Kansas Wesleyan by just four votes overall to claim the favorite role for the KCAC crown. The Moundbuilders received six first-place votes, while the Coyotes claimed four first-place votes. Avila was picked to finish third, while Bethel came in fourth.

Regardless of who comes out on top, expect another competitive clash for the KCAC crown this fall.
