THE RFC MYC: Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC)-(NCAA Division III)

Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC)-(NCAA Division III)

Overview: The Framingham State University Rams overcame an 0-2 start to win eight straight games and another Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) championship in 2019. The Rams fell to Wesley in the first round of the NCAA Division III playoffs to finish the season at 8-3 overall.

As for the Western Connecticut State University Colonials, the start to the 2019 season was almost similar to that of the 2018 season, when they started 8-0, only to stumble in their last two games to finish 8-2. Last season, however, WCSU got off to a 6-0 start before falling to Framingham State on October 26, followed by another loss to UMass-Dartmouth one week later.

With the 2020 season canceled due to the coronavirus, expect both Framingham State and Western Connecticut State to challenge for the MASCAC crown yet again, although with multiple challengers, as six of the conference's nine teams finished the 2019 season with at least six wins overall.

THE RFC MYC: Liberty League (LL)-(NCAA Division III)

Liberty League (LL)-(NCAA Division III)

Overview: The 2019 season was the "Year of the Dutchmen", as the Union College Dutchmen of Schenectady, N.Y. cruised to an undefeated regular season at 10-0 in clinching the Liberty League (LL) title, while also finishing league play at 6-0.

In the NCAA Division III playoffs, the Dutchmen rallied from an 18-point halftime deficit to defeat Case Western Reserve 24-21 in the first round before falling to Salisbury 62-41 in the second round. Union's season ended at 11-1 overall after losing to the Sea Gulls.

The 2020 season had an obvious asterisk to it, as all seven teams in the Liberty League canceled their seasons due to the COVID-19. However, expect the LL to bounce back even stronger in time for the 2021 season, with Union expected to be the favorite to finish on top again this fall.

THE RFC MYC: Empire 8 Conference (E8)-(NCAA Division III)

Empire 8 Conference (E8)-(NCAA Division III)

Overview: The College at Brockport Golden Eagles won their third straight Empire 8 Conference (E8) championship in 2019, sharing the title with Cortland at 5-1 in E8 action en route to a 9-3 overall record, while also advancing to the NCAA Division III playoffs. Brockport knocked off Western New England in the first round before crushed by eventual national semifinalist Muhlenberg in the second round.

As for the other E8 co-champion, the Cortland Red Dragons settled for an overall record of 8-3 after falling to Brockport in a thrilling 32-26 overtime contest on November 2. The Red Dragons finished the 2019 season with back-to-back losses, as well as losing three of their last four games after a 7-0 start.

The COVID-19 pandemic of 2020 caused just two teams to play only two games against each other during the spring of 2021, with Alfred squaring off against Utica in a brief "home and home" series. Utica beat Alfred 30-17 in the first meeting on March 23, only to have the Saxons return the favor in the re-match one week later, with Alfred pulling out a hard-fought 17-10 win over the Pioneers on March 30

As for this upcoming season, the 2021 Empire 8 Conference crown could be any team's to win, with Brockport looking to make it four straight E8 titles this fall.

THE RFC MYC: Eastern Collegiate Football Conference (ECFC)-(NCAA Division III)

Eastern Collegiate Football Conference (ECFC)-(NCAA Division III)

Overview: 2019 turned out to be a "down season" for the Eastern Collegiate Football Conference (ECFC), as none of the six teams finished the season with a winning record.

In fact, the lone ECFC squad to even finish the regular season with at least five wins was Maritime (N.Y.), whose Privateers finished second in ECFC action at 3-2 en route to a final overall record of 5-6. Their season ended in the first round of the NCAA Division III playoffs after Salisbury cruised to a convincing 83-0 win.

The only other ECFC team to advance to postseason play was Dean, as the fledgling Bulldogs won their first-ever conference crown at 4-1 en route to a 4-6 overall record in 2019. Dean lost to Endicott 52-10 in the ECAC New England Bowl Series on November 23

Going into 2021, the ECFC as a whole hopes to improve on its disappointing performance from 2019.

THE RFC MYC: Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC)-(NCAA Division III)

Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC)-(NCAA Division III)

Overview: A 42-31 win over Endicott on November 2 helped propel the Western New England University Golden Bears to the 2019 Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) championship undefeated at 7-0 in conference play. They advanced to the NCAA Division III playoffs for the fifth straight season, only to have their postseason run cut short in the first round, losing a close contest to Brockport in the closing seconds, 33-28. The Golden Bears finished its season at 9-2 overall with that tough loss to the Golden Eagles.

As for Endicott, the Gulls also finished their 2019 campaign at 9-2 overall. However, they had to settle for an ECAC bowl berth, beating fledgling program Dean in a 52-10 rout. Endicott finished second in the CCC at 6-1 in conference action.

With the 2020 season canceled due to the coronavirus, expect both Endicott and WNEU to contend for the CCC crown once again going into the 2021 season. Also, Becker College of Leicester, Mass. has permanently closed its doors due to COVID-19 concerns. Becker's departure will leave the CCC with seven teams to take the field this fall.

THE RFC MYC: Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA)-(NCAA Division II)

Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA)-(NCAA Division II)

Overview: The Bowie State University Bulldogs completed an undefeated regular season at 11-0 overall to win their second-straight Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) championship in 2019. Sadly, though, the Bulldogs would see their season come to a halt in the first round of the NCAA Division II playoffs, as Carson-Newman eliminated BSU from postseason play with a 17-9 upset win. The loss to the Eagles ended Bowie State's season at 11-1 overall.

Like many NCAA Division II conferences across the nation, the CIAA chose to cancel its 2020 season due to the COVID-19 pandemic. But expect the entire conference to bounce back in 2021, with Bowie State the likely team to beat once again.

THE RFC MYC: Great Midwest Athletic Conference (G-MAC)-(NCAA Division II)

Great Midwest Athletic Conference (G-MAC)-(NCAA Division II)

Overview: The Tiffin University Dragons clinched the Great Midwest Athletic Conference (G-MAC) championship for the spring of 2021 after defeating the University of Findlay Oilers 23-8 on April 24. Not only was the win over the Oilers the second straight G-MAC championship for the Dragons, but Tiffin was also the only undefeated team in the league for the shortened spring season, finishing at 6-0 overall, and 5-0 in G-MAC action.

Quickly looking ahead to the fall 2021 season, the Alderson-Broaddus University Battlers from West Virginia have left the G-MAC for the Mountain East Conference (MEC), while the Ashland University Eagles (7-4 overall in 2019) out of Ashland, Ohio will make the move to the G-MAC after spending multiple seasons in the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC). The departure of Alderson-Broaddus, as well as the arrival of Ashland, not only gives the G-MAC eight football-playing for the upcoming fall 2021 campaign but also means that Hillsdale College from Michigan, as well as Kentucky Wesleyan, will become the only non-Ohio schools to suit up in the G-MAC this season.

THE RFC MYC: Mountain East Conference (MEC)-(NCAA Division II)

Mountain East Conference (MEC)-(NCAA Division II)

Overview: The Notre Dame College (Ohio) Falcons defeated the University of Charleston (W. Va.) 51-34 to claim the Mountain East Conference championship on April 17. It was the third straight conference crown for the Falcons in finishing their shortened spring season undefeated at 5-0 overall.

As for the traditional fall season, multiple changes are in store for 2021, as the Alderson-Broaddus University Battlers out of Philippi, W. Va. will join the MEC for their first full season this fall. That comes after Battlers went winless at 0-4 overall during their shortened spring schedule while finishing 1-9 overall during their final season (2019) in the Great Midwest Athletic Conference (G-MAC).

The other newcomer to the MEC comes from North Carolina in the form of UNC Pembroke. UNCP finished its spring 2021 season at 2-2 overall after winning their first two games and losing their last two games.

THE RFC MYC: Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC)-(NCAA Division II)

Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC)-(NCAA Division II)

Overview: 2019 proved to be yet another banner year for the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC), as multiple teams advanced to postseason play last fall, with Slippery Rock (13-1 overall) advancing to the national semifinals, falling to eventual national runner-up Minnesota State-Mankato.

Four other PSAC teams joined "The Rock" in advancing to the NCAA Division II playoffs in Kutztown (11-2, lost to Notre Dame [Ohio] in the second round), Shepherd (10-3, lost to fellow PSAC foe Slippery Rock in the second round), West Chester (9-3, lost to Notre Dame in the first round), and Indiana (Pa.)-(10-2, lost to Shepherd in the first round). A sixth team, California (Pa.)-(7-4 overall) finished third in the PSAC West Division at 5-3, falling short of the postseason.

With the COVID-19 pandemic derailing the 2020 season for most teams, the PSAC will look to bounce back in time for the 2021 season.

THE RFC MYC: Northeast 10 Conference (NCAA Division II)

Northeast 10 Conference (NCAA Division II)

Overview:
The 2019 football season for the Northeast 10 Conference could best be described as "complete chaos", as none of the nine teams in the league won more than seven games overall. In fact, the lone NE-10 squad to even win that many games last year was the University of New Haven, whose Chargers finished 7-3 overall and 6-2 in NE-10 action. UNH shared the conference crown with Bentley, whose Falcons also finished 6-2 in league play, as well as 6-4 overall. Additionally, none of the nine NE-10 teams advanced to postseason play two years ago.

With the 2020 football season canceled due to COVID-19 concerns, expect the NE-10 to bounce back in 2021.

THE RFC MYC: Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC)-(FCS)

Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC)-(FCS)

Overview: The Alabama A&M University Bulldogs outlasted the University of Arkansas-Pine Bluff Golden Lions, in a 40-33 thriller, to claim the Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) championship in Jackson, Miss. on May 1. It was not only the Bulldogs' first SWAC title since 2006 but also their first unbeaten season since 1966 (8-0 overall), as AAMU finished its abbreviated spring season at 5-0 overall. Meanwhile, UAPB settled for a final overall record of 4-1 after losing to Alabama A&M.

The upcoming fall season will see multiple changes for the SWAC, as longtime MEAC members Bethune-Cookman and Florida A&M make the move west after spending many seasons in the latter conference. The arrival of both Florida schools resulted in the realignment of both the East and West Divisions, as Alcorn State was moved into the latter division to make room for both aforementioned institutions. The realignment gives the SWAC 12 teams in all, with six teams in the East Division, and six teams in the West Division. All 12 teams will play eight conference games, with each squad playing all five teams within their own division, as well as three games against teams from the other division.
