RFC Throwback Thursday: Southern Mississippi at Louisville-2000

(Video courtesy of Fox Sports Net)

With the collapse of Conference USA all but certain as this post was being produced, this week's installment of "RFC Throwback Thursday" turns the clock back to November 4, 2000. That was the University of Southern Mississippi Golden Eagles traveled to Kentucky to face the University of Louisville Cardinals. Although the Cards would prevail 49-28 on this day, Southern Miss did go on to upset then-No. 16 TCU in the now-defunct Mobile, Alabama Bowl 28-21 on December 20 to finish the season at 8-4 overall, as well as 4-3 in C-USA play. As for Louisville, the Cardinals eventually left C-USA for the Big East Conference in 2005, and the ACC in 2014.

Update: On October 26, 2021, the University of Southern Mississippi accepted an invitation to join the Sun Belt Conference from Conference USA. That move is expected to take place no later than July 1, 2023.

RFC Throwback Thursday: Louisiana-Monroe upsets Alabama-2007

(Video courtesy of PSC Highlights/Comcast/Charter Sports Southeast [CSS])

This week's installment of "RFC Throwback Thursday turns the clock back to November 17, 2007. That was when the University of Louisiana-Monroe Warhawks pulled off one of the biggest upsets of the season, as they stunned the Alabama Crimson Tide, 21-14. The loss to ULM marked the lone loss to a non-Power 5 during head coach Nick Saban's tenure at Alabama. The shocking win over the Crimson Tide was the second of three straight wins to close out the 2007 campaign for Louisiana-Monroe. ULM finished the season at 6-6 overall, missing out on a bowl game despite that strong finish.
