THE RFC MYC: Great American Conference (GAC)-(NCAA Division II)

Great American Conference (GAC)-(NCAA Division II)

Overview: Thanks to critical wins over Ouachita Baptist on September 25 and Henderson State on October 16, the Harding University Bisons finished the regular season at 10-1 overall while winning the Great American Conference (GAC) championship in 2021. The Bisons advanced to the NCAA Division II playoffs, defeating and eliminating Washburn in the first round, and losing to Northwest Missouri State in the second round to end their season at 11-2 overall.

As for the teams that finished behind Harding in the final GAC standings, both Henderson State and Ouachita Baptist were snubbed for postseason play despite finishing the regular season at 9-2 overall, while Southeastern Oklahoma State finished at 9-3 overall after knocking off Emporia State 37-34 in the Farmer's Bank and Trust Live United Bowl on December 4. HSU's losses came to Harding and Ouachita, while Ouachita lost to Harding and HSU, respectively, during the 2021 season. On that same date, the Oklahoma Baptist University Bison outlasted UT-Permian Basin 24-21 in the Fun Town RV Heritage Bowl to finish their season at 8-4 overall. The win over UTPB was OBU's first-ever postseason win.

With the 2022 season just around the corner, expect another tight race for the GAC title this fall, as the conference's coaches named Harding the preseason favorite to win another league crown. However, don't be surprised if Ouachita Baptist, Southeastern Oklahoma State, Henderson State, and Oklahoma Baptist, among other squads, all give the Bisons a run for their money throughout the upcoming campaign.
