THE RFC MYC: Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC)-(NCAA Division II)

Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC)-(NCAA Division II)

Overview: The Ferris State University Bulldogs made history in 2021, as they cruised to a convincing 58-17 win over Valdosta State to earn the program's first-ever NCAA Division II national championship. The Bulldogs finished the season unbeaten at 14-0 overall.

The only other team from the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) to advance to postseason play last fall was the Grand Valley State University Lakers. After sending now former D-II member Lindenwood to the FCS level with a 20-3 win over the Lions in the first round, the Lakers' season ended in the second round, as the Bulldogs won easily, 54-20, to finish their season at 10-2 overall. Both of GVSU's losses last fall came to Ferris State, with the Lakers' only other loss to the Bulldogs coming in a close 35-28 decision on October 16.

With a preseason ranking of #1 in the College Football America Top 30 poll, expect Ferris State to be favored to win back-to-back national championships this fall. That hasn't happened since Northwest Missouri State won back-to-back crowns in 2015 and 2016. Still, don't be surprised if Grand Valley State challenges Ferris State for supremacy in the GLIAC, never mind the national scene this fall.
