THE RFC MYC: Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SIAC)-(NCAA Division II)

Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SIAC)-(NCAA Division II)

Overview: The Miles College Golden Bears won their second straight Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SIAC) title with a 21-6 win over the Albany State University Golden Rams in Albany, Georgia on November 16, 2019. The Golden Bears season ended in the first round of the NCAA Division II playoffs the following week, losing to the Lenoir-Rhyne University Bears, 36-7, to finish their season at 9-3 overall.

With the 2020 season canceled due to COVID-19, Miles enters the 2021 season hoping to win its third straight SIAC title. However, with teams like Savannah State (7-3, 5-0 in 2019), Albany State (7-4, 5-2), Fort Valley State (6-4, 4-2), Tuskegee (5-5, 4-2), and Kentucky State (6-3, 3-3) among others, looking to mount a serious challenge to the Golden Bears, don't be surprised if any of those squads find themselves mentioned in the conference championship conversation this fall.

Finally, in off-the-field news, Allen University from Columbia, South Carolina has re-joined the SIAC after an absence of more than half a century. The addition of Allen gives the SIAC 13 schools from the 2021 season going forward. Edward Waters University of Jacksonville, Florida has also joined the SIAC mix, as both schools will begin their transition from the NAIA to the NCAA Division II level this fall.
