Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference (HCAC)-(NCAA Division III)
Overview: Since winning their first Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference (HCAC) championship since 2003 in 2018, the Hanover College Panthers have won two more conference crowns over the past two seasons, with the latter coming despite playing just four of six scheduled games during the shortened spring season of 2021.
Hanover won its second straight HCAC championship in 2019, reeling off nine straight wins after losing the season opener to Centre on September 7. The Panthers finished HCAC play undefeated at 7-0 in earning its second straight trip to the NCAA Division III playoffs. The Panthers season ended with a 65-14 loss to Mount Union in the first round on November 23, to finish at 9-2 overall.
As mentioned above, despite playing only four of six scheduled games, the Panthers still found a way to not only win its third straight HCAC title but also finish unbeaten in all four contests during the abbreviated spring season, finishing at 4-0 overall. Hanover crushed longtime conference archrival Franklin 56-21 on April 10 to finish their shortened season unbeaten.
Looking forward to the traditional fall season of 2021, Hanover will be favored to win its fourth straight HCAC championship. However, expect the Panthers to face stiff challenges from two one-loss teams in Mount St. Joseph (5-1 overall in the spring of 2021) and Rose-Hulman (4-1). Also, Franklin (4-3) hopes to return to the HCAC championship conversation after falling short of the title the last several seasons, while Bluffton (4-4) hopes to make their own move upward in the standings this season.
