THE RFC MYC: Sooner Athletic Conference (SAC)-(NAIA)

Sooner Athletic Conference (SAC)-(NAIA)

Overview: It was a "tale of two seasons" in the Sooner Athletic Conference (SAC), as three different teams won at least a share of the conference title during that span.

In 2019, Ottawa University of Arizona and Langston University from Oklahoma both shared the SAC championship with identical 7-1 records, with the Spirit beating the Lions 27-7 on October 19 to earn the automatic bid to the NAIA playoffs. OUAZ lost to the College of Idaho in the first round to end its season at 9-2 overall. As for Langston, the Lions fell short of postseason play despite finishing its season at 8-2 overall.

In 2020-21, the Arizona Christian University Firestorm cruised to an unbeaten season in SAC action at 6-0, while also finishing the regular season at 9-1 overall. Their season also ended at 9-2 overall with a 63-21 loss to Keiser (Fla.) in the first round of the NAIA playoffs on April 17.

With the traditional fall season of 2021 just around the corner, the battle for this year's SAC crown could come down to the two Arizona teams, with both ACU and OUAZ predicted to finish in first and second place, respectively. Meanwhile, the SAC saw its football-playing membership increase by one member to 10 teams, as Louisiana College joins the league after downgrading from the NCAA Division III level.
