THE RFC MYC: Great American Conference (GAC)-(NCAA Division II)

Great American Conference (GAC)-(NCAA Division II)

Overview: Five of the 12 teams in the Great American Conference (GAC) finished the 2019 season with a winning record, with four of those teams advancing to postseason play of some kind.

The Ouachita Baptist University Tigers led the way with their third straight GAC championship in 2019, finishing the regular season unbeaten at 11-0. But Ouachita's quest for a national championship was stopped cold in the first round of the NCAA Division II playoffs, as Lindenwood pulled off the upset over the Tigers in a thrilling 41-38 finish. Ouachita finished its season at 11-1 overall with the stunning loss to Lindenwood.

The Harding University Bisons also had an excellent 2019 season, as they finished the regular season at 10-1 overall, with their lone loss coming to Ouachita in the season opener on September 5. However, just like Ouachita, Harding's season came to a heartbreaking close in the first round of the D-II playoffs, with the Bisons losing a low-scoring defensive struggle to Northwest Missouri State, 7-6, to end their campaign at 10-2 overall.

The three other teams that finished their 2019 seasons with winning records were Henderson State (9-3 overall), Southern Arkansas (8-4), and Oklahoma Baptist (7-4). The Reddies lost to Missouri Western State in the Agent Barry Live United Bowl on December 7, while the Muleriders fell to Eastern New Mexico in the Heritage Bowl, and the Bison finished their season with four straight wins after losing four of their first seven games.

As the 2021 season quickly approaches, expect both Ouachita Baptist and Harding to do battle for another GAC crown, while Henderson State, Southern Arkansas, and Oklahoma Baptist looking to have a say as to which team ultimately comes out on top.
