THE RFC MYC: Northwest Conference (NWC)-(NCAA Division III)

Northwest Conference (NWC)-(NCAA Division III)

Overview: After an uncharacteristic second-place finish in the Northwest Conference (NWC) at 6-1 in NWC play, and 7-2 overall, in 2018, the Linfield University Wildcats returned to the top of the throne in 2019, finishing conference action unbeaten at 7-0, while also finishing the regular season at 8-1, en route to winning their 10th title in 11 years. Linfield defeated Whitworth in a tight 38-31 thriller on November 9 to punch their ticket to the NCAA Division III playoffs. The Wildcats postseason run ended in the first round with a hard-fought 68-65 triple-overtime loss to Chapman to finish their season at 8-2 overall.

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic of 2020, only four NWC squads saw action during the spring of 2021. The Whitworth University Pirates made the most of the abbreviated season, with both squads finishing undefeated. The Pirates outscored their only two opponents in Puget Sound and Pacific Lutheran 167-51 en route to finishing 4-0. Since the start of the 2015 season, Whitworth has compiled a combined overall record of 45-14. That's good for an overall winning percentage of .763 over the past six seasons.

As the fall 2021 season fast approaches, Linfield looks to bounce back and try to clinch its 65th consecutive winning season after sitting out the 2020-21 season due to COVID-19, while Whitworth will try to challenge the Wildcats for the NWC title.
