New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC)-(NCAA Division III)
Overview: The 2019 New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) season was dominated by two teams that were not from New Jersey, in the form of the Salisbury University Sea Gulls from Salisbury, Maryland, as well as the Wesley College Wolverines from nearby Dover, Delaware. Both teams not only to the NCAA Division III playoffs, but they also won one playoff game each, only to lose in the second round.
Salisbury cruised through the regular season undefeated, finishing at 7-0 in the NJAC play en route to taking the NJAC title in finishing at 10-0 overall. The Sea Gulls downed Union in a high-scoring first-round contest, before falling to eventual national semifinalist Muhlenberg in the second round to their season at 11-1 overall.
Wesley also represented the NJAC well during postseason play, as the Wolverines finished 6-1 in league action, and 9-1 overall, with their lone loss coming to Salisbury in a thrilling 45-38 contest on October 12. In the D-III playoffs, Wesley crushed Framingham State in the first round, before losing to Delaware Valley in the second round to finish their 2019 campaign at 10-2 overall.
The COVID-19 pandemic has already claimed one NJAC team's 2020 season, with The College of New Jersey (TCNJ) canceling its campaign due to the coronavirus. Assuming that the virus doesn't cause other current NJAC members to do the same, expect both Salisbury and Wesley to be the teams to beat again this fall.
