Empire 8 Conference (E8)-(NCAA Division III)
Overview: The College at Brockport Golden Eagles won their third straight Empire 8 Conference (E8) championship in 2019, sharing the title with Cortland at 5-1 in E8 action en route to a 9-3 overall record, while also advancing to the NCAA Division III playoffs. Brockport knocked off Western New England in the first round before crushed by eventual national semifinalist Muhlenberg in the second round.
As for the other E8 co-champion, the Cortland Red Dragons settled for an overall record of 8-3 after falling to Brockport in a thrilling 32-26 overtime contest on November 2. The Red Dragons finished the 2019 season with back-to-back losses, as well as losing three of their last four games after a 7-0 start.
Assuming the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic doesn't continue to cause problems throughout the sports world in general, including NCAA Division III football, expect both Brockport and Cortland to have a say in the E8 championship conversation again this season.
Correction: Buffalo State left the Liberty League before the 2019 season after spending the last seven seasons in the Empire 8. The loss of Buffalo State, as well as the departure of Ithaca to the LL in 2017, left the E8 with just seven teams taking the field in 2019. RFC regrets the error.
