Southland Conference (FCS)

Overview: Nicholls (9-4 overall) outlasted upstart Incarnate Word (6-5 overall) to win the automatic bid to the FCS playoffs in 2018. The Colonels finished SLC play at 7-2, while the Cardinals 6-2. The SLC also sent three teams to postseason play, with Nicholls eliminating San Diego in the first round, and losing to eventual national runner-up Eastern Washington in the second round. Meanwhile, both UIW and Lamar saw their seasons end in the first round, as both Cardinal teams fell to Montana State and Northern Iowa, respectively. Expect another close race for the Southland Conference championship going into 2019.
