Southern Conference (FCS)
Overview: The race for the 2018 Southern Conference championship ended in a three-way tie for first place between East Tennessee State, Furman, and Wofford. All three teams finished SoCon play at 6-2 at the end of the regular season, with ETSU (8-4 overall) and Wofford (9-4 overall) both advancing to the FCS playoffs. However, both teams postseason runs ended early, with the Buccaneers losing to Jacksonville State in a first-round shootout, while the Terriers fell to Kennesaw State in the second round. As for the Purple Paladins (6-4), they found themselves on the outside looking in for postseason play despite a season-ending four-game winning streak.
If the end of 2018 was any indication, and with 2019 fast approaching, don't be surprised if the battle for this year's Southern Conference crown comes down to the final week of the regular season.
