Ohio Valley Conference (OVC)-(FCS)
Overview: Despite an upset loss at Southeast Missouri State (9-4 overall) on October 20, the Jacksonville State University Gamecocks (9-4) still managed to claim another Ohio Valley Conference championship after a 7-1 finish in OVC play in 2018. As for the Redhawks, they finished second in the OVC at 6-2 while landing an at-large bid to the FCS playoffs.
Both OVC postseason representatives scored first round wins, as Jacksonville State outlasted East Tennessee State 34-27, while Southeast Missouri downed Stony Brook 28-14. However, their respective seasons would end in the second round, as the Gamecocks were crushed at eventual national semifinalist Maine 55-27, while the Redhawks fell to eventual national quarterfinalist Weber State 48-23. Ironically, the Black Bears would go on to upset the Wildcats on the road the following week.
But back to the OVC going forward into 2019, Jacksonville State begins the season at No. 7 in the Athlon FCS Preseason Top 25 hoping to yet another deep postseason run, while Southeast Missouri State looks to do the same.
