THE RFC MYC: Presidents Athletic Conference (PAC)-(NCAA Division III)

Presidents Athletic Conference (PAC)-(NCAA Division III)

Overview: It was another bizarre, yet competitive season in the Presidents Athletic Conference for the fall season of 2021, as five of the league's 10 teams found themselves with winning records by season's end. Of those five squads, four of them won at least eight games apiece, with all of them combining for 32 wins overall. Carnegie Mellon finished 8-1 in PAC action en route to a final overall record of 8-2. The Tartans knocked off Westminster (Pa.)-(8-3 overall, 8-1 in the PAC in 2021) on October 9 to win the PAC's automatic bid to the NCAA Division III playoffs.

However, despite ending their season on a seven-game winning streak, the Tartans never got to prove themselves in the playoffs, as their first-round game against then-defending national champion North Central was canceled due to COVID-19 protocols. It was one of a handful of postseason games at all levels to be canceled, or have a change in opponents, due to the pandemic.

While Carnegie Mellon's quest to make a deep playoff run was derailed by the ongoing pandemic, four other teams did manage to play their postseason games, with only one team coming out on top. Grove City (8-3, 6-3) crushed Utica 49-7 to win the ECAC Scotty Whitelaw Bowl on November 20, while Washington & Jefferson (8-3, 7-2), Westminster, and Saint Vincent (5-6, 4-5) all lost their respective postseason contests. Another team in Case Western Reserve fell short of postseason play after finishing 6-4 overall and 5-4 in the PAC last fall.

As another season draws closer to opening, expect another close race for the PAC this fall.
