Presidents Athletic Conference (PAC)-(NCAA Division III)
Overview: The Washington & Jefferson College Presidents outlasted nine other teams to take home yet another Presidents Athletic Conference (PAC) championship in 2018, finishing 8-1 in conference play. It was the program's 26th conference crown dating back to 1970.
However, W&J's NCAA Division III playoff run was stopped cold in the first round, as Centre crushed the Presidents 54-13 win. The crushing loss ended their season at 9-2 overall. The PAC saw some mixed results in postseason play outside of NCAA playoff action as well, with Westminster (Pa.) losing to Wesley 42-34 in the ECAC Clayton Champion Bowl to end the season at 7-4, while Grove City ended 2018 with seven straight wins after outlasting Morrisville State 56-48 to win the James Lynah Bowl and finish 8-3.
As the 2019 season quickly approaches, the main question is this: Can W&J add a 27th PAC title to its trophy case? Or do the likes of Case Western Reserve (8-2 in 2018), Grove City, and Westminster have a chance to oust the Presidents this fall? The Spartans fell to W&J in a 29-23 heartbreaker in overtime to see their postseason hopes fall by the wayside in finishing 7-2 in conference play. Still, expect another tight race in the PAC this fall.
