THE RFC MYC: Centennial Conference (CC)-(NCAA Division III)

Centennial Conference (CC)-(NCAA Division III)

Overview: 2018 proved to be an outstanding season for the Centennial Conference (CC), as five of the league's ten teams not only advanced to postseason play but also won at least eight games to end the regular season, while also winning at least one postseason game, and then some.

Johns Hopkins outlasted Muhlenberg in a hard-fought 27-16 outcome on October 27 to eventually claim the CC's automatic bid to the NCAA Division III playoffs. The Blue Jays advanced to their first-ever national semifinal round. That's where they gave then-defending national champion turned eventual national runner-up Mount Union all it could handle before succumbing 28-20. JHU finished the 2018 season at 12-2 overall.

As for Muhlenberg, the Mules also had one of their seasons in program history, eliminating Delaware Valley on the road and Randolph-Macon at home before being eliminated themselves by the same Mount Union squad that ended Johns Hopkins' season a week later. Muhlenberg ended the 2018 campaign at 11-2 overall.

The CC's postseason success wasn't limited to the D-III playoffs, as all three of their representatives that played in the Centennial-MAC Bowl Series won their respective games.
Franklin & Marshall edged Lycoming 21-20, Susquehanna got by Lycoming 17-7, and Ursinus crushed Misericordia 70-14.

With Johns Hopkins and Muhlenberg both highly ranked in the Lindy's Sports and Street and Smith's preseason polls, respectively, don't be surprised if either team makes another deep D-III playoff run in 2019, although the trio of F&M, Susquehanna, and Ursinus might have something to say about that. The Blue Jays will especially try to move forward this fall with heavy hearts, as veteran head coach Jim Margraff passed away suddenly on January 2, just weeks after leading his team to the semifinals.
