THE RFC MYC: Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC)-(NCAA Division III)

Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC)-(NCAA Division III)

Overview: Parity was name of the game in the almost always competitive Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) for 2018, as the Randolph-Macon College Yellow Jackets finished 6-1 in conference play en route to the winning the league last fall. Two other teams in Bridgewater (Va.)-(6-4 overall) and Hampden-Sydney (4-5) finished tied for second place at 4-3 in ODAC action, while four other teams; Emory & Henry (4-5), Ferrum (5-5), Shenandoah (5-5) and Washington & Lee (5-4) finished in a four-way tie for fourth place at 3-4. Even last place Guilford managed to win two conference games, with the Quakers finishing 2-5 in the ODAC, and 3-6 overall.

Randolph-Macon represented the ODAC well in the NCAA Division III playoffs, as the Yellow Jackets pulled off the upset over John Carroll 23-20 in the first round, before falling to Muhlenberg 35-6 in the second round. The win over John Carroll was the first NCAA playoff win in Randolph-Macon history.

The 2019 season will bring about a change in membership for the ODAC, as Southern Virginia joins the conference as an associate member this fall. The addition of SVU brings the number of football-playing members in the ODAC to nine teams.
