THE RFC MYC: Southern Conference (FCS)

Southern Conference (FCS)

Overview: In an unusual season that saw all of its members play anywhere between five and 12 games overall from the fall of 2020 to the spring of 2021, the VMI Keydets emerged as the class of the Southern Conference, as they not only won their first conference championship since 1977 but also clinched their first-ever FCS playoff berth. VMI gave eventual national semifinalist James Madison all it could handle before losing 31-24 in the first round. The Keydets finished their shortened spring season at 6-2 overall, as well as at 6-1 in Southern Conference action.

Looking ahead to the fall schedule, expect another close race for the Southern Conference crown, with VMI looking to be the hunted, while teams such as Chattanooga (3-2, 3-1), East Tennessee State (4-2), and Mercer (5-6, 5-3) will find themselves among the hunters.
