Ohio Valley Conference (OVC)-(FCS)
Overview: In their final season as a member of the Ohio Valley Conference (OVC), the Jacksonville State University (Ala.) Gamecocks won their ninth and final OVC championship, as the Gamecocks compiled a final overall record of 10-3 during the combined fall 2020 and spring 2021 seasons. After crushing Davidson 49-14 in the first round, JSU saw its postseason run get cut short in the second round of the FCS playoffs, as the University of Delaware Blue Hens held off the Gamecocks 20-14.
Eastern Kentucky (3-6 overall in 2020) is the other team to join Jacksonville State in the temporary "AQ7" conference for the fall of 2021, with both teams to join the all-new Atlantic Sun Conference in 2022. One of the Colonels' three wins last season came against future A-Sun member Central Arkansas, with EKU knocking off the then-No. 11 Bears with a last-second touchdown on October 24, 2020.
Of the seven remaining OVC teams that will take the field this fall, Murray State could be among the favorites to win the league title, with the Racers racing off to a 5-0 start before losing their final two games of the spring 2021 season, falling to Austin Peay and Jacksonville State, respectively, to finish at 5-2 overall. Also, don't be surprised if the Governors return to the form that not only won them their first OVC title since 1977 but also sent them to their first-ever FCS playoff appearance in 2019.
