THE RFC MYC: Northeast Conference (NEC)-(FCS)

Northeast Conference (NEC)-(FCS)

Overview: The Duquesne University Dukes finished the COVID-19 shortened regular season undefeated despite playing just four games. However, the Sacred Heart University Pioneers pulled off the upset over the Dukes in the Northeast Conference championship game on April 10. The dramatic 34-27 win in overtime not only gave SHU the NEC title but also an automatic bid to the FCS playoffs. On the other hand, the Dukes saw their 2020-21 season end at 4-1 overall.

In the FCS playoffs, Sacred Heart gave eventual national semifinalist Delaware all it could handle before losing 19-10 in the first round. The loss to the Blue Hens gave the Pioneers a final overall record of 3-2 for the spring season.

Looking ahead to the fall of 2021, Duquesne will look to bounce back from that tough loss to Sacred Heart, as the Dukes try to return to postseason play, while the Pioneers will prove to be serious challengers for the NEC crown.
