THE RFC MYC: Sun Belt Conference (FBS Group Of Five)

Sun Belt Conference (FBS Group Of Five)

Overview: As this article was posted, Texas State University announced on June 30, 2025, that it would be leaving the Sun Belt Conference to join a newly-rebuilt Pac-12 Conference, effective July 1, 2026. The Bobcats' departure will result in the SBC having 13 members by then, with seven schools in the East Division, and six in the West Division.

Meanwhile, after rejecting a bid to the Independence Bowl in the wake of then-head coach Charles Huff leaving to accept the same job at Southern Mississippi, the Marshall University Thundering Herd will look to defend their first-ever SBC title with a new head coach in Tony Gibson. He inherits a program that finished the 2024 season at 10-3 overall and 7-1 in conference play.

With or without Texas State, though, expect the Sun Belt Conference to be one of the toughest in all of FBS non-power conference (Group of Five/Six) college football in 2025.
