Conference USA (FBS Group Of Five)
Overview: "Chaos USA". That was the term that best described Conference USA in 2020, with seven of its 12 members playing at least 10 games last fall. Marshall (7-3 overall, 4-1 in C-USA in 2020) won seven straight games before losing their last three, including a heartbreaking loss to Buffalo in the Camellia Bowl on Christmas Day. Meanwhile, eventual champion UAB (6-3, 3-1) saw its bowl game (Gasparilla) vs. South Carolina canceled due to COVID-19 concerns. Additionally, three teams (Charlotte, FIU, and Rice) played six or fewer games due to the pandemic, while Old Dominion sat out the entire 2020 season due to COVID-19 issues as well.
As for bowl season, C-USA went winless at 0-6, with the closest contests being the Camellia (Marshall lost to Buffalo 17-10) and the First Responder Bowl (UTSA lost to Louisiana 31-24 on December 26, 2020). None of the C-USA teams finished the 2020 season ranked in the Associated Press Top 25 poll.
With every team losing at least one conference game in 2020, expect more chaos in Conference USA for 2021.
