2018 Preseason Poll (Courtesy of the Lone Star Conference)
Overview: Despite suffering their lone loss of the 2017 season to Midwestern State on October 7, the Texas A&M University-Commerce Lions (14-1 overall) still managed to make a memorable postseason run en route to their first-ever NCAA Division II national championship. The Lions defeated the University of West Florida Argonauts 37-27 for the title on December 16.
As for Midwestern State, the Mustangs (10-1 overall) managed to cruise through the regular season undefeated despite, ironically, having their game on September 9 against West Florida canceled due to Hurricane Irma. In the NCAA Division II playoffs, the Mustangs escaped with a 24-20 win over Sioux Falls in the first round, only to be crushed at Minnesota State-Mankato in the second round for their only loss of 2017.
Now, with the 2018 season just around the corner, expect a two-way battle between Texas A&M-Commerce and Midwestern State for the LSC crown, with both squaring off at Midwestern State on October 6. However, don't count out Eastern New Mexico (8-2 in 2017), whose Greyhounds lost to both aforementioned teams last season.
NOTE: If the link to the team's schedule is not highlighted, it means that the team has not submitted its schedule for the 2018 season.
