This week's post of "RFC Throwback Thursday" takes a look back at the 1974 game between the Ball State University Cardinals and the Central Michigan University Chippewas. In the following silent film, the Chippewas faced the Cardinals in a contest in which both teams competed as independents in NCAA Division II.
In the game played on September 14, 1974, the Chippewas emerged victorious over the Cardinals 24-17. The victory started a season-ending 12-game winning streak for Central Michigan, which culminated in the program's only national championship, as the Chippewas crushed Delaware 54-14 in the championship game on December 14.
CMU ended the 1974 season at 12-1, while Ball State finished at 6-4.
