RFC Summer Semester: Central States Football League (CSFL) Preview (NAIA)

Website

2012 Final Standings

Looking back: The Central States Football League (CSFL) operated with five teams in 2012.  Of those five squads, only two of them posted winning records: Bacone (7-4 overall) and Langston (6-4).

Looking ahead: The CSFL loses one team in Oklahoma Panhandle State, but will gain two others in Oklahoma Baptist and Wayland Baptist.  That brings the total number of teams in the conference to six for 2013.

Predicted order of finish (2012 overall record in parentheses)

1. Bacone (7-4):  The Warriors might be hard press to match last year's mark.  Their biggest non-conference test comes on September 7, when they play host to perennial powerhouse Northwestern (Iowa).

2. Langston (6-4):  Lions face a brutal non-confernece schedule that sees them play against the likes of Nicholls State, Northern Colorado, and Northwestern State, as well as Incarnate Word, who's making the transition from NCAA Division II to the FCS.

3. Southwestern Assemblies of God (4-6):  As hard it might be to be believe, the Lions will play against only two teams that had winning records last season.

4. Texas College (2-9):  The Steers face an uphill battle after a dismal season.

5. Wayland Baptist (2-7):  The Pioneers will focus on significant, steady improvement in their second season football.

6. Oklahoma Baptist (n/a):  The Bison could be in for a bumpy ride in their first football season since 1940.  Their schedule sees them playing against three teams also making their gridiron debut in 2013: Houston Baptist, Southwestern (Tex.), and Wayland Baptist.
