RFC Summer Semester--NCAA Division II Independents Preview

Editor's Note: The U.S. Independence Day weekend previews continue with an installment on the independent programs competing at the NCAA Division II level. The previews also include teams in the Great Lakes Football Conference (GLFC).

2009 overall record in parentheses

Central State (1-10): The Marauders were shutout 119-0 in their first three games of 2009, all losses. They play just four true home games in 2010.

Kentucky Wesleyan (2-9): The Panthers will be looking for their first winning season since 1999, when they finished 7-4. They've never won more than seven games in the 27-year history of their program.

Lincoln (Mo.)--(0-11): The Blue Tigers look to move forward after a winless 2009 campaign.

Missouri S&T (4-7): The Miners were held to 17 points or less in their six of their seven losses last season.

Notre Dame College (Ohio): The Falcons first full varsity season includes four games against NAIA opponents, as well as seven contests against NCAA Division II foes.

North Greenville (2-8): The Crusaders play four of their five games of 2010 on the road. Their longest trip of the season takes them to Ohio, where they'll face Notre Dame College on September 30.

Oklahoma Panhandle State (5-6): A 50-48 triple-overtime win over the Southwest Assemblies of God on September 19 was a big bright spot in an otherwise so-so 2009 season for the Aggies.

Southwest Baptist (6-5): The Bearcats overcame an 0-4 start to finish 2009 with a winning record. They did just that by winning five of their final six games.

St. Joseph's (5-6): The Pumas won the 2009 GLFC title with a 4-0 mark in conference play last season. Still, they face a tough schedule where they play four straight games on the road in September and early October.

UNC Pembroke (9-2): After making their first-ever NCAA playoff appearance last season, expectations are high for the Braves this season, as they begin the 2010 campaign ranked in the Top 15 in two separate preseason polls.

Urbana (6-5): The Blue Knights will play three of their first four games on the road to open the 2010 season.
