Mount Union Picked at OAC Football Preview as Preseason Favorite (courtesy of oac.org)
2016 Final Standings-Ohio Athletic Conference (OAC)
Overview: For the first time since 1991, a team other than the University of Mount Union Purple Raiders won the Ohio Athletic Conference's (OAC) automatic bid to the NCAA Division III playoffs, as the John Carroll University Blue Streaks ended the Purple Raiders run of 25 straight OAC championships with a 31-28 upset win on November 12. Both JCU and UMU advanced to the national semifinals, with both teams losing to eventual national runner-up and champion, Wisconsin-Oshkosh and Mary Hardin-Baylor, respectively.
With the 2017 season just around the corner, it'll be interesting to see if Mount Union can return to the form that not only 25 straight conference crowns, but also 12 national championships between 1993 and 2015. Or if can John Carroll can claim just its fifth conference championship ever, for that matter.
NOTE: If the link to the team's schedule is unlisted, it means that the team has not submitted its schedule for the 2017 season. When the team's schedule is submitted, the link (s) will appear in each blog post.
