2016 Final Standings-Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC)
Overview: The 2016 edition of the Tommie-Johnnie Classic was another one to remember, as St. Thomas (12-1 overall) held off a late St. John's (10-2) rally to win 33-21. That win helped spark the Tommies to yet another postseason appearance, which ended with a tough 34-31 loss to eventual national runner-up Wisconsin-Oshkosh in the NCAA Division III quarterfinals.
As for St. John's, the Johnnies rallied on the game's final play to stun visiting Wisconsin-Platteville, 32-31, to open the D-III playoffs, but fell to UW-Oshkosh in the second round the following weekend.
Looking ahead to 2017, perhaps the signature game of the year in the MIAC will be played on a much bigger stage on September 23. That's when St. Thomas and St. John's will square off once again to open conference again, this time at Target Field in Minneapolis.
