Overview: The Northwest Missouri State University Bearcats enter the 2017 season with 30 straight wins to go with their back-to-back NCAA Division II national championships. But in order to make a "three-peat" this fall, the Bearcats must try to accomplish that feat with a new head coach in Rich Wright. He replaces Adam Dorrel, who resigned to become the new head coach at FCS Abilene Christian.
Northwest Missouri State will have multiple teams within their own conference looking to end their two-year reign at the top of D-II. One of those squads will be the Emporia State University Hornets (11-2 overall in 2016), who fell to the Bearcats twice, with the second loss coming in the second round of the Division II playoffs last season. Don't be surprised if the Hornets are in the postseason discussion again this season.
Three other MIAA teams had a taste of postseason play in 2017, with Central Missouri losing to Harding in the first round of the D-II playoffs, Fort Hays State steamrolling their way over Eastern New Mexico to win the Heart of Texas Bowl, while Washburn fell to Bemidji State in the Mineral Water Bowl.
NOTE: If the link to the team's schedule is unlisted, it means that the team has not submitted its schedule for the 2017 season. When the team's schedule is submitted, the link (s) will appear in each blog post.
