THE RFC MYC: Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association (MIAA)-(NCAA Division II)

Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association (MIAA)-(NCAA Division II)

Overview: The Pittsburg State University Gorillas from Pittsburg, Kansas enjoyed one of their best seasons in quite some time last fall, as they finished the regular season undefeated at 11-0 en route to winning the Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association (MIAA) championship. After shutting out the University of Indianapolis, 35-0, in the first round of the NCAA Division II playoffs, the Gorillas season came to a heartbreaking close, as eventual national champion Ferris State ended Pitt State's season at 12-1 overall, with a 17-14 win on November 26, 2022.

Two other MIAA teams advanced to postseason play last season in Northwest Missouri State University and Emporia State. The Bearcats ousted previously unbeaten Ouachita Baptist in the first round before losing to Grand Valley State in the second round to finish their season at 10-3 overall. As for the Hornets, after being snubbed for a D-II playoff berth, they ended their season on a winning note, defeating Southeastern Oklahoma State 48-27 to win the Live United Bowl on December 3, ending at 9-3 overall.

With the 2023 season just around the corner, expect longtime rivals Pittsburg State and Northwest Missouri State to contend for another MIAA title. The Gorillas beat out the Bearcats by five total votes to earn the favorites role in the coaches preseason poll, while also earning 22 of 30 first-place votes in the media poll.

The upcoming 2023 campaign will also mark the final season for the Lincoln University Blue Tigers in the MIAA, as they will officially move to the Great Lakes Valley Conference (GLVC) in 2024. Lincoln was previously an associate member for the GLVC in football from 2014-2018.
