Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference (RMAC)-(NCAA Division II)
Overview: The Colorado School of Mines Orediggers enjoyed what was probably their best football season ever, as they finished 12-2 overall, as well as 8-1 in Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference (RMAC) play last fall. That was good enough for a share of the conference championship with an upstart program in the Western Colorado University Mountaineers, who finished their season at 10-2 overall, and 8-1 in RMAC play as well.
In the NCAA Division II playoffs, Colorado Mines defeated and eliminated Bemidji State in the second round, and Angelo State in the quarterfinals, before falling to Valdosta State in the semifinals. As for Western Colorado, the Mountaineers were stopped cold by Nebraska-Kearney in the first round.
As the 2022 season quickly approaches, Mines will begin its campaign ranked at #3 in the d2football.com poll, as well as at #4 in the AFCA poll. Still, expect the likes of Colorado Mesa (8-2, 7-2) as well as Western Colorado, to give the Orediggers a run for their money in the RMAC this fall.
