Great Lakes Valley Conference (GLVC)-(NCAA Division II)

Overview: In what proved to be their final season at the NCAA Division II level, the Lindenwood University Lions left the Great Lakes Valley Conference (GLVC) in style, as they finished league action undefeated yet again in the fall of 2021 at 7-0 in conference play. It was the Lions' second straight outright GLVC championship, having won their only other title during their inaugural season of 2019 when they also finished unbeaten in conference play. The 2020 season was canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

However, Lindenwood's season ended in the first round of the D-II playoffs when they fell to  Grand Valley State 20-3 to finish their 2021 season at 9-3 overall. But that was nothing compared to what happened after the season ended for the Lions, as Lindenwood athletics officials announced on February 23, 2022, that they would move up to the NCAA Division I level, which includes FCS football, while also joining the Ohio Valley Conference (OVC). That move ended what was likely the shortest, yet most successful era in Lindenwood history.

With Lindenwood now beginning its transition to the FCS level, the GLVC will play with just seven teams in 2022, with the University of Indianapolis Greyhounds (7-4 overall, 5-2 in the GLVC in 2021) being named the preseason favorite to claim the conference championship this fall. But don't count out a strong Truman State (9-3, 4-3) squad this season, as the Bulldogs were picked to finish second in the GLVC in the league's preseason poll. Either way, expect a wide-open race for the GLVC this year.
