THE RFC MYC: Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association (MIAA)-(NCAA Division II)

Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association (MIAA)-(NCAA Division II)

Overview: Thanks to an early-season cancelation of a game vs. Lincoln (Mo.), the Northwest Missouri State University Bearcats managed to beat out upstart programs like the University of Nebraska-Kearney Lopers and the Washburn University Ichabods for the 2021 Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association (MIAA) title. Northwest finished 9-1 in MIAA play, followed by UNK and Washburn at 9-2.

All three aforementioned teams advanced to the NCAA Division II playoffs, with Northwest Missouri State earning wins over Central Washington and Harding before falling to eventual national champion Ferris State on December 4. The Bearcats' season came to a close at 11-2 overall after losing to the Bulldogs.

As for the other two MIAA teams that won nine games last fall, UNK knocked off Western Colorado on the road in the first round before falling to Angelo State in the second round to finish at 10-3 overall, while UNK lost to that same Harding squad mentioned above in the first round to end its season at 9-3 overall.

Going into a brand new season, Northwest Missouri State once again was named the overwhelming favorite to win another MIAA title. Additionally, the Bearcats will begin their 2022 campaign ranked #2 in the preseason AFCA poll, with UNK sitting at #14 and Washburn receiving votes in the rankings.
