THE RFC MYC: Mountain East Conference (MEC)-(NCAA Division II)

Mountain East Conference (MEC)-(NCAA Division II)

Overview: The Notre Dame College (Ohio) Falcons used a run of 20 unanswered points in the second quarter to knock off the Frostburg State University Bobcats, 23-21, on October 9. That win turned out to be the main catalyst for NDC to claim the Mountain East Conference (MEC) championship for the fall 2021 season. After slipping their way past Slippery Rock in the first round, the Falcons fell to eventual national semifinalist Shepherd in the second round of the NCAA Division II playoffs to finish their season at 11-2 overall.

If the preseason predictions provide any indication for the upcoming 2022 season, expect NDC to be in the conversation for both a national championship, as well as another Mountain East Conference championship this fall. The Falcons will enter the season ranked at No. 9 in the Lindy's Sports and Wayne Cavadi Power 10 polls.

However, don't expect NDC to just cruise to that conference crown, as Frostburg State looks to mount a serious challenge for the MEC championship after compiling a combined overall record of 13-2 during the 2021 calendar year, with the Bobcats finishing 3-1 during the shortened spring season, followed by a 10-1 mark at the end of the traditional fall season. Guess whom Frostburg State lost to during that 15-game span last year? None other than Notre Dame College. Don't count out Charleston (W. Va.)-(8-2 overall in 2021) in the conference championship conversation either.
