Frontier Conference (FC)-(NAIA)
Overview: The College of Idaho 'Yotes dominated the Frontier Conference in 2019, cruising through the regular season undefeated in finishing at 10-0. They crushed Ottawa (Ariz.) 70-23 in the first round of the NAIA playoffs but fell to Grand View on the road in a second-round heartbreaker to finish their season at 11-1 overall.
The pandemic-shortened spring season of 2021, however, proved to be a different story, as three teams in Carroll (Mont.), College of Idaho, and Eastern Oregon finished in a three-way tie for first place in the FC. But it was Carroll that earned the right to represent the Frontier Conference in the NAIA playoffs at the end of its abbreviated regular-season schedule. That was thanks to the Saints knocking off the 'Yotes, 28-19, in a contest that decided the conference championship on April 10. Carroll's postseason run ended abruptly in the first round the following weekend, as Morningside cruised to a convincing 55-0 win. The Saints finished 3-2 overall after losing to the Mustangs.
With Eastern Oregon and the College Idaho both beginning the 2021 season ranked Nos. 18 and 19, respectively, as well as Montana Western and Carroll also receiving votes in the NAIA Preseason Top 25 Poll, don't be surprised if the race for this fall's Frontier Conference championship comes down to the final weekend of the regular season.
