Centennial Conference (CC)-(NCAA Division III)

Overview: The Johns Hopkins University Blue Jays and the Muhlenberg College Mules both shared the Centennial Conference championship in 2021, with both teams finishing at 8-1 in conference play. However, it was their 21-6 win over Johns Hopkins on October 15 that helped Muhlenberg earn the CC's automatic bid to the NCAA Division III playoffs. As for Johns Hopkins, the Blue Jays earned an at-large bid to the D-III playoffs.

In the D-III playoffs, the Mules pitched back-to-back shutouts over Framingham State (45-0) and Delaware Valley (14-0) before succumbing to Mount Union (35-29) in overtime of the quarterfinals to finish their season at 11-2 overall. As for the Blue Jays, they rolled past Salisbury (45-20) in the first round before falling to the same aforementioned Mount Union squad (45-35) in the second round to close the 2021 season at 10-2 overall.

In addition to Johns Hopkins' and Muhlenberg's respective appearances in the NCAA Division III playoffs, three other CC teams advanced to postseason play last fall, with Susquehanna (9-2 overall, 7-2 in the CC in 2021), Ursinus (7-4, 6-3), and Franklin & Marshall (6-5, 5-4) all advancing to the ECAC MAC-Centennial Bowl Series. Susquehanna downed Widener, 49-21, in one game, Ursinus lost to Lycoming, 31-23, in another game, and Franklin & Marshall ended its season on a three-game winning streak, with the Diplomats outlasting Stevenson, 42-28. 

The upcoming 2022 season will mark the final season for three of the 10 teams in the Centennial Conference, as Juniata, Moravian, and Susquehanna will move to the all-new Landmark Football Conference (LFC) starting with the 2023 season. The move will not only reduce the CC's current membership to seven teams but also allows the conference to reach a scheduling agreement with the New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC). That agreement will also start in 2023.

For this fall, however, expect Johns Hopkins and Muhlenberg to do battle for the CC crown yet again.
