"RFC Throwback Thursday" is back with a triple feature this week, coinciding with the three biggest showdowns in the FCS for the 2021 season that are taking place this weekend!
The first video turns the clock back to 2016. That was when the James Madison University Dukes played host to the University of New Hampshire Wildcats in a second-round FCS playoff game. It was a duel that the Dukes won convincingly over the Wildcats en-route to the JMU program's second-ever national championship! JMU beat Youngstown State 28-14 on January 7, 2017, to finish the season at 14-1 overall, with the Dukes' lone loss coming to North Carolina.
The second video turns the clock back to 2009. That was when the University of Montana Grizzlies played host to the Eastern Washington University Eagles in a mid-season Big Sky Conference clash. The Grizzlies outlasted the Eagles 41-34 in a high-scoring contest on October 17, en route to a final record of 14-1 overall, losing a heartbreaker to Villanova in the FCS national championship game on December 18.
The third and final video turns the clock back to 1991. That was when the North Dakota State University Bison hosted the University of North Dakota football team, back when both programs competed at the NCAA Division II level. The Bison outlasted UND in a 35-28 thriller on November 16, before losing to Minnesota State-Mankato in the first round of the D-II playoffs the following week. Meanwhile, North Dakota finished the 1991 season at 7-2 overall, missing out on postseason play altogether.
