"Throwback Thursday" is back for another season of looking back at the past for all things "alternative" college football, or college football at all levels outside of the current "Power 5 Conference" structure.
This week's episode turns the clock back to the week of September 4-5, 2003. That was when UAB played host to Southern Miss, while Fresno State hosted Oregon State. The Golden Eagles outlasted the Blazers 17-12 on Thursday, September 4 en route to winning the Conference USA championship, while the Bulldogs knocked off the Beavers the following night (Friday, September 5) on the way to a second-place finish in the Western Athletic Conference (WAC), finishing at 9-5 overall following a 17-9 season-ending win over UCLA in the now-defunct Silicon Valley Football Classic on December 31.
