2016 Final Standings-Gulf South Conference (GSC)-(NCAA Division II)
Overview: The University of North Alabama Lions (11-2 overall in 2016) made their first NCAA Division II national championship game appearance since winning the last of their three straight national championships in 1995 last December. But the Lions quest to win their fourth national championship was crushed by Northwest Missouri State in a 29-3 rout. The 2017 campaign will mark the last chance for UNA to win it all, as the Lions accepted an invitation to move up to the NCAA Division I ranks, joining the FCS Big South Conference for football starting in 2018.
