THE RFC MYC: Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC)-(NCAA Division II)

Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC)--(NCAA Division II)

2016 Final Standings-Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC)

Overview: Once again, the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) proved to be one of the strongest conferences in all of NCAA Division II, as eight of 16 teams finished the 2016 season with a winning season. Of those eight squads, four of them-California (Pa.), Edinboro, Indiana (Pa.), and West Chester-won at least eight games overall, while three teams-Cal U, Edinboro, and IUP, won at least nine games.

As far as postseason play was concerned, California (11-1 overall in 2016) advanced to the quarterfinal round of the NCAA Division II playoffs. There, the Vulcans magical run ended with a tough 41-30 loss to Shepherd. Meanwhile, IUP (10-2 overall in 2016) advanced to the second round before falling to fellow PSAC West Division foe, Cal U, 44-23.

With that said, don't be surprised if the races in both the East and West Divisions of the PSAC come down to the final week of the 2017 season.

2016 Final Standings-Centennial Conference (CC)

Overview: The Johns Hopkins University Blue Jays enjoyed yet another banner season in 2016, finishing 11-1 overall, and advancing to the second round of the NCAA Division III playoffs, losing to Mount Union. With two preseason publications putting them among the Top 10-15 teams in the nation, expect the Blue Jays to be in the national championship conversation again in 2017.

THE RFC MYC: Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC)-(NCAA Division III)

President's Athletic Conference (PAC)--(NCAA Division III)

2016 Final Standings-Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC)

Overview: The Thomas More College Saints cruised through yet another undefeated regular season in the Presidents' Athletic Conference in 2016, finishing league play at 8-0 en route to yet another conference title. The Saints fell to Wittenberg, 33-30, in a four-overtime thriller in the first round of the NCAA Division III playoffs.

Two other PAC teams finished the 2016 campaign with at least nine wins, as Case Western Reserve finished 9-1 overall (7-1 in the PAC), while Washington & Jefferson finished 9-2 overall (6-2 in the PAC). The Presidents ended last season with four straight wins, ending with a come-from-behind 38-31 win over Brockport in the ECAC President's Bowl.

THE RFC MYC: Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC)-(NCAA Division III)

Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC)--(NCAA Division III)

2016 Final Standings-Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC)

Overview: In just their sixth season of football, the Stevenson University Mustangs finally broke through the barrier in 2016, finishing 8-1 in Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) play en route to winning their first-ever conference championship. However, their NCAA Division III playoff run was cut short by Wesley, as the Wolverines cruised to a convincing 38-14 win in the first round. Don't be surprised if Stevenson is the favorite to win the D-III version of the MAC again in 2017. Although Delaware Valley (9-2 overall in 2016) could provide a serious challenge to the Mustangs this fall.

THE RFC MYC: New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC)-(NCAA Division III)

New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC)--(NCAA Division III)

2016 Final Standings-New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC)

Overview: The Wesley College Wolverines (9-3 overall in 2016) advanced to the second round of the NCAA Division III playoffs, losing to eventual national semifinalist John Carroll in a double overtime thriller. But not before blowing out Frostburg State (10-1 overall), 43-7, on September 10. It was that one loss to Wesley that cost the Bobcats a trip to the NCAA playoffs, despite a season-ending nine-game winning streak, ending with a 38-14 win over St. John Fisher in the ECAC Asa S. Bushnell Bowl.

With a preseason ranking of No. 13 by Street and Smith's magazine, don't be surprised if the Wolverines find themselves in the postseason discussion for 2017.

THE RFC MYC: Liberty League (LL)-(NCAA Division III)

Liberty League (LL)--(NCAA Division III)

2016 Final Standings-Liberty League

Overview: A tight race for the 2016 Liberty League football championship came down to a showdown between Hobart and St. Lawrence on November 5. When the smoke finally cleared, it was the Statesmen that rolled past the Saints, 34-18, to claim the LL's automatic bid to the NCAA Division III playoffs. While Hobart's season ended with a first-round loss to the University of Mount Union, St. Lawrence was forced to sit out postseason play altogether despite a 9-1 regular season record.

The 2017 season will bring about significant changes in membership for the Liberty League, with Ithaca jumping into the fold this fall, while Merchant Marine, Springfield, and WPI have left for the all-new New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC). Those moves have reduced the Liberty League's membership to just six teams for football, therefore forcing the conference to forfeit its automatic bid to the D-III playoffs this season.

THE RFC MYC: Empire 8 Conference (E8)-(NCAA Division III)

Empire 8 Conference (E8)--(NCAA Division III)

Overview: The Alfred University Saxons enjoyed one of their most successful seasons in program history, advancing to the quarterfinals of the NCAA Division III playoffs before losing to the University of Mount Union. With the loss to UMU, the Saxons finished the 2016 season at 12-1 overall. The remaining teams in the Empire 8 Conference all finished last year with at least two losses in league play, while Alfred finished conference play unbeaten at 8-0.

A quick look ahead to the 2017 season will bring about changes to the E8, as Ithaca leaves to join the Liberty League. That leaves the Empire 8 Conference with eight teams for this fall.

THE RFC MYC: New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC)-(NCAA Division III)

New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC)--(NCAA Division III)

Overview: The New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) will become another new league to join the NCAA Division III ranks within the New England region, as eight teams will join the fold for its inaugural season this fall. Out of those eight squads, Norwich (5-5 overall in 2016), finished with the best conference record among their new league brethren at 5-2. On the flip side, Worcester Polytechnic Institute (WPI), finished the 2016 season at 6-4 overall, but 3-4 against their soon-to-be NEWMAC foes. Due to NCAA by-laws, the NEWMAC cannot receive an automatic bid to the Division III playoffs until 2019.

If it seems like there are so many teams that came to the all-new NEWMAC from different conferences, you're right. Of the eight squads to join the new conference, three are from the Liberty League, three from the NEFC in Coast Guard, Maine Maritime, and MIT, one from the ECFC in Norwich, and even one team from the Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) in Catholic University out of Washington, D.C.

Eastern Collegiate Football Conference (ECFC)-(NCAA Division III)

Overview: The Husson College Eagles (9-2 overall) dominated the Eastern Collegiate Football Conference (ECFC) ranks in 2016, as they finished the season unbeaten in league play at 7-0. They won the ECFC's automatic bid to the NCAA Division III playoffs, falling to Western New England, 44-27, in the first round.

Looking ahead to 2017, the ECFC will welcome two new programs in Alfred State from Upstate New Year, as well as Dean College from Franklin, Massachusetts. The Pioneers are on the verge of completing their provisional status period to become a full Division III member, while the Bulldogs make the move to the NCAA from the United States Collegiate Athletic Association (USCAA). On the other hand, Norwich joins the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) after spending the last eight years in the ECFC.

THE RFC MYC: THE 2017 DEBUT-Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC)-(NCAA Division III)

Editor's Note: Welcome to the debut of the "RFC MYC", with the "MYC" initials standing for "Mark Your Calendars". The purpose of the newly-revised previews at the Real Football Central blog is to present the schedules of every college football team outside of the so-called "Power Five" conferences (ACC, Big 10, Big 12, Pac 12, and SEC), throughout the summer of 2017. So, what are we waiting for? Let's get started.

Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC)-(NCAA Division III)

Overview: The Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) makes its NCAA Division III debut with six teams taking the field in 2017. All six squads will join the CCC from the now-defunct New England Football Conference (NEFC).

Western New England (11-1 overall) had the best season out of all of those squads, advancing to the second round of the 2016 playoffs, losing to Alfred, 30-24. The only other team to finish the 2016 season with at least eight wins was Salve Regina, with the Seahawks finishing 8-2 overall. Additionally, the University of New England Nor'easters won't start play until 2018.
