In this edition of "RFC Postseason's Greetings/Throwback Thursday", we're taking a look back at the Northern Michigan University Wildcats' national championship football team from 1975. NMU rebounded from a winless season at 0-10 in 1974 to a 13-1 record and its program's only NCAA Division II national championship.
The 1975 squad featured future NFL coach Steve Mariucci as the starting quarterback during his sophomore season. Thanks to his efforts, he helped the Wildcats to a 16-14 win over Western Kentucky in the national championship game on December 13. Northern Michigan's lone loss came at the hands of Akron on October 11.
