RFC Throwback Thursday: Gary McBride from Bowling Green State University-1974

(Video courtesy of ABC Sports)

"RFC Throwback Thursday" returns for another moment in "alternative" and "non-power conference" college football history.

This week, we turn the clock back to 1974. That was when ABC Sports aired an interview with then-Bowling Green State University football player Gary McBride

McBride's story is unique because he was among the few hearing-impaired college football players in the 1970s. Watch and listen as you hear his story.

(Video #1 courtesy of ESPN.)

(Video #2 courtesy of ESPN.)

This week's installment of "RFC Throwback Thursday" features the "Battle of I-75" between the Bowling Green State University Falcons and the University of Toledo Rockets. The series between these two long-time Mid-American Conference members has been competitive since their first meeting in 1919, with Toledo holding a slim lead of 43-41-4.

The first video featured has highlights of the 2022 game, where Bowling Green pulled off the upset over a then-heavily favored Toledo squad in a thrilling 42-35 win over for the Falcons, while the second video features highlights of the Rockets avenging that loss to BGSU in a 32-31 victory in 2023.
